Willow Grove Conservatory for Equestrian Studies

The wisdom of the past
illuminating the future

A conservatory is a school specializing in a specific art or skill, drawing from both history and modern discoveries. We are about what is physically, mentally, and emotionally beneficial for horses.

Conservation is a resource's careful maintenance and upkeep to prevent it from disappearing. Willow Grove is working to conserve:

  • Critically endangered Hackney Horses & Highland Ponies

  • The traditions and safe practice of Carriage Driving

  • Légèreté-an ancient French riding methodology and UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage

This is the mission of Willow Grove

“Receive the light and impart it”

“What do we need to know to find connection and clarity with horses? Knowledge of the horse and ourselves. Out of the Renaissance in France grew horse-positive training culture and ideology based in Légèreté or lightness. Their writings create a massive repository of technique and wisdom. Cultivated in royal courts for art and battle, refined by fierce debate, and preserved for the unrivaled nobility of horses.”
